Arsenal 3-0 Sparta Prague second leg Champion's League qualifier

Arsenal played their first leg champion's league qualifier against Sparta Prague away from home and won by two goals to nil. This put Arsenal in an advantage as they had two goals and they were away goals.

Arsenal had to qualify for the Champion's League because they finished fourth in the English Premier League and only the top two teams automatically qualify for the Champion's League. Arsenal booked their ticket to the champion's league group stage with a 3-0 victory against Sparta Prague in the second leg, which was played at the Emirates Stadium. Arsene Wenger fielded a strong side for Arsenal's second leg match against Sparta Prague. Tomas Rosicky was in the starting lineup for Arsenal, playing against his former club, Sparta Prague. Tomas Rosicky gave Arsenal the lead in the seventh minute. I didn't watch that game so I can't give you an honest match review, I just watch the highlights. In the eighty-second minute, Eduardo Silva made a great run and fed it to Fabregas, who scored the second goal of the match. The team that would go to the champion's league was pretty much done and dusted with but still Arsenal weren't finished yet. Eduardo Silva scored the third and final goal of the day. Eduardo Da Silva looked pretty impressive in this match. You can read the Arsenal 3-0 Sparta Prague match reports on Arsenal.com here.

Arsenal vs Manchester City match review

Last week against Blackburn, Jens Lehmann made a horrendous mistake and cost Arsenal two points. You can read Arsenal 1-1 Blackburn Match review here. Arsenal played Manchester City who had a great start of the season after a new manager, Sven Goran Erikson and a lot of new players. Manchester City was overhauled in the summer after Stuart Pearce was sacked from the job. Sven, England's ex-manager was appointed the job of managing Manchester City. Till not he is doing a great job.

Before playing against Arsenal, Manchester City had won all three of their games of the 2007-08 season and one win was against Manchester United where they won by a goal to nil. Manchester City have changed their playing style and they are starting to play good and fluid football. This should really help Arsenal as Arsenal are one of the best fluid footballing sides in the world. Not a lot of teams can win against Arsenal if they start playing "football".

Anyways, about the match itself, Arsenal played good football and created lots of chances. Manchester City were playing Arsenal's game. Manchester City were playing on the break and created a lot of good chances. Arsenal should have put in some chances but it was almost like last year. Arsenal got a penalty after Alexander Hleb was brought down by Micah Richards, Manchester City's center back. Robin Van Persie took charge of the penalty taking duty and he choose power over placing and Kasper Schmeichel (Ex-Manchester United keeper Peter Schmeichel's son) shaved the poorly struck penalty. At the eightieth minute, a great give and go with Alexander Hleb found Fabregas in a good position inside the box. Fabregas struck the ball with great power and Kasper Schmeichel unable to do anything even thought the shoot was in the near post. Arsenal created some chances after that but couldn't score any more goals. I felt if Arsenal had scored the goal earlier, they would have thrashed Manchester City and if Jens Lehmann was playing, Manchester City would have secured a draw. Its a good news that Lehmann is out with an injury for a couple of weeks and I hope Arsene Wenger doesn't put him back in the team. He has made too many mistakes.

The scoreline was Arsenal 1-0 Manchester City and Arsenal got all three points at home. You can also Arsenal vs Manchester City on Arsenal.com or visit Manchester City's official site for more information on Manchester City.

Arsenal vs Blackburn match review 07/08

After a difficult match against Sparta Prague, Arsenal played their next game against Blackburn, another physically intimidating side. Arsenal managed to scrape a Arsenal 2-0 Sparta Prague champion's league qualifier first leg win. Sparta Prague played a very physical game and tried to stifle Arsenal as lots of teams did last year. Sparta Prague's tactics somewhat failed. Arsenal were finding it difficult to play against them in the first half and as the match went on, Arsenal grew in confidence and they too played physically matching tackles for tackles.

Right after the Sparta Prague first leg champion's league qualifier, Arsenal had to play another physically intimidating English club, Blackburn. It was hard enough playing Blackburn at home but Arsenal had to play against Blackburn at Ewood Park, Blackburn's home ground. Again as Sparta Prague did against Arsenal, Blackburn tried to apply the same tactics. This season, Arsenal have learned to play against physical sides. Even though Arsenal don't look comfortable playing physically, they managed it quite well. Arsenal drew first blood. It was a scrappy goal which was created by the never give up, great work rate attitude of Eduardo da Silva. Robin Van Persie scored from that chance. It was a very feisty affair and a blackburn defender, Ryan Nelsen
got his second yellow card and was sent off. Arsenal were looking great and would have won it if it weren't for a horrendous mistake by Mad Jens ( Jens Lehmann ) who gifted the equalizer to Blackburn. This is Lehmann's second blunder in a row. Arsenal should let go of Lehmann. (angry). Lehmann cost Arsenal vital two points. The match at Ewood Park ended Arsenal 1-1 Blackburn. You can read Arsenal 1-1 Blackburn match report on Arsenal.com here. Arsenal play their next English Premier League game against Manchester City and I think Arsenal will be able to get all three points against them.

Arsenal 2-1 Fulham 2007-08 season highlights

Arsenal played their first game of the 2007-08 season against Fulham at the Emirates stadium. It was not so impressive performance by Arsenal but they did enough to secure a victory. Mad Jens (angry) made a horrendous mistake just in 55 seconds of his first game of the season and made it harder for Arsenal. I hate that keeper. (angry). Too much drama, too much stupid mistakes. But still Arsenal managed to secure a victory against Fulham. The team looked good but still they are not perfect. Still some holiday rust there and Arsenal have to polish that out before its too late.Ok enough talk, if you missed the match between Arsenal and Fulham, you can read Arsenal 2-1 Fulham 2007-08 match review here or watch the match highlights itself below.

Arsenal vs Sparta Prague 1st leg match report

Arsenal played their UEFA Champion's League qualifying match against Sparta Prague. It was not a very good start for Arsenal. Especially in the first half, Arsenal were almost bullied out of the game as the former Aston Villa defender and now the current captain of Sparta Prague, Tomas Repka made some crunching tackles in the mid field in the hope of unsettling the Arsenal players. Sparta Prague's tactics seemed to work for some time but this is a new, young and experienced Arsenal side, not the last years team who didn't like teams that played physically. It was actually a very uneventful match except for some rash tackles. Both sides failed to create much chances in the first half.

Arsenal seemed to gain some confidence as the second half went on and in the 72 minuted Gael Clichy, the left wing back went past the Sparta defense and opened up some space for Cesc Fabregas who managed to give Arsenal their lead. Sparta Prague threatened Arsenal's goal a couple of times but Jens Lehmann (Mad Jens) kept the efforts out of goal. In the dying minutes of the match, Arsenal sealed their first leg match with another goal by Alexander Hleb. This time, Arsenal's new signing Bacary Sagna, right back set up Alexander Hleb for the second goal for Arsenal. Arsenal just did enough to win this game. The score was, Arsenal 2-0 Sparta Prague. This Arsenal team seems very united and determined to do something this season. The second leg match between Arsenal and Sparta Prague will be played at the Emirates Stadium. British Gas Launches Greenest Energy

Gas is used by every household in the developed countries in a daily basis. The normal gas we use to cook stuffs emit carbon which is not good for the environment and people are getting aware of the emission problems. As the awareness has increased, the consumers now want clean energy to help stop the pollution. The result is, the companies that supply gas and electricity to their homes like British Gas has had to develop new and cleaner products. British Gas has very recently announced, they will be launching two new kinds Zero Carbon and Future energy for their consumers. So now the consumers have the choice on what they want to do. This is a very good thing for both consumers and the environment as now they have the power of choice. I wish other companies take the steps as British Gas has done now. We only have one earth and we are destroying it at a frightening pace. People as well and the companies need to be aware of this and not just concentrate on how much it would cost them (I mean the company). You can check out British Gas's new green energy tariff.

This is the British Gas's most recent Press release on Green Energy.

BRITISH GAS LAUNCHES GREENEST ENERGY TARIFF

9 August 2007: British Gas has announced it is launching two new green energy tariffs, Zero Carbon, which will be the greenest tariff available on the domestic market and Future Energy. British Gas has launched the tariffs, in response to the increasing demand for green energy products.

Householders signing up to the Zero Carbon tariff will:
• reduce their household energy carbon emissions to zero through Kyoto compliant offset schemes which will meet the new Defra requirements
• help fund a direct increase in investment in renewable energy generated in the UK
• contribute to the new British Gas green fund which will:
o invest in developing new renewable technologies such as wave power
o oversee a programme to help schools in the UK reduce their CO2 emissions

Gearóid Lane, Managing Director British Gas New Energy said,”Our new tariff responds to consumer demand for truly green energy solutions. It is essential that customers have confidence in green energy tariffs and that their credibility is not damaged by tariffs that claim to be green but in reality do not deliver any incremental environmental benefits. Green tariffs are moving from niche to mainstream products and we’re leading the industry by offering a tariff that will do more for the environment than any other product currently available.”

Under the government’s Renewables Obligation (RO), electricity suppliers in the UK are already required to produce an increasing percentage of their electricity through methods such as wind farms which, unlike traditional power plants, produce zero carbon emissions. For 2007/2008 this figure is set at 7.9%.

In a recent report, the National Consumer Council (NCC) raised concerns that some energy suppliers are packaging electricity which is produced under the RO scheme as “green”, yet it delivers no additional environmental benefits. The NCC called on energy suppliers to take steps beyond their legal requirements and offer green energy tariffs that provide genuine additional environmental benefits, in particular CO2 emissions reduction.

British Gas worked with Global Action Plan and The Climate Group’s “We’re in this Together” campaign to develop Zero Carbon which goes further than any other green tariff in meeting these requirements offering consumers the only zero carbon option on the market.

The tariff carries a premium of £84 per year, reflecting the higher cost of producing energy through lower carbon emission schemes.

Virginia Graham, Chair of Global Action Plan, said, “The British Gas Zero Carbon tariff delivers on all three of the essential requirements of a green tariff which are: additionality, transparency and verifiability. As such it is a very welcome new offering in the market. Consumers signing up to the tariff can be confident that they are getting 12 per cent more renewable energy than they would otherwise have got. The carbon emissions from their electricity and gas will also be offset with emissions reductions from projects accredited by the United Nations.”

Zero Carbon is one of the first initiatives launched through the ‘We’re in this Together’ campaign, which was launched in April 07 as an alliance of some of the UK’s biggest brands who are all working to help their customers reduce their impact on the climate.

Dr Steve Howard, CEO of The Climate Group and founder of ‘We’re in this Together’ said, “We’re committed to offering people ways to make a real impact on climate change through Together.com. We’ve worked with British Gas to ensure that Zero Carbon is a genuine step forward in delivering more environmental benefits than any other tariff currently available.”

British Gas’s second green energy tariff, Future Energy, offers an alternative green electricity tariff at a premium of just £20 per year. Customers signing up to this tariff will contribute to a green fund which will provide solar panels and other renewable energy technologies to UK schools. Money from the fund will also be invested in development of future renewable technologies and sources.

Arsenal's first match of 2007-08 season against fulham

After a gap of three months, the English Premier League is back in full swing. Arsenal played their first game of the 2007-08 season today. The first round of Premier League games took place yesterday and three of the top four teams played their matched today. Chelsea played Birmingham City who managed to get promoted right away after playing a season in the Coca Cola Championship. Manchester United played Reading and Arsenal played Fulham. Liverpool played Aston Villa yesterday.

Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal played their games at their home ground. Chelsea won their first game of the season against Birmingham City. The scoreline was, Chelsea 3-2 Birmingham City. Manchester United just managed to get a draw against Reading even though Reading were down to ten men. There was another setback to Manchester United's title defense as one of their key players, Wayne Rooney suffered a fractured foot on the season opener. The score was Manchester United 0-0 Reading.

As for Arsenal, they played their first league game against Fulham in the Emirated Stadium. It was a bad start for Arsenal as a back pass from Gael Clichy to Jens Lehmann ( Mad Jens ) and the German keeper fumbles and made a big mess, as a result the new Fulham signing David Healy scored his first Premier League giving and early lead to Fulham. Arsenal then were on a attacking spree but they were a bit rusty and miss placed lots of short passes. Arsenal created some chances and Alexander Hleb was quite a hand full for the Fulham defenders. Hleb made a run inside the box from the left hand side and was brought down but the referee didn't award the penalty as he should have. There were other few chances but the scoreline was Arsenal 0-1 Fulham at the end of the first half. The start of the second half was the same thing but as the game went on, Arsenal pushed forward a lot and didn't give up. Arsenal players showed some determination. The score was Arsenal 0-1 Fulham until in the 83rd minute in the game when Kolo Toure, the Arsenal defender made a dynamic run forward, skipping past three or four defenders before he was brought down in the box. This time the referee awarded Arsenal the penalty. Robin Van Persie took the penalty and almost tore the net with a blistering shot on the top corner. Arsenal were level and now the next step was to score another goal and get all three points. At the 90th minute, Cesc Fabregas threaded in a diagonal long ball just outside the box for Alex Hleb and Hleb didn't disappoint at all. Hleb controlled the ball magnificently and he beat a defender and the keeper giving the lead to Arsenal at the last possible minute. A hard fought win for Arsenal. You can read more on Arsenal vs Fulham match report on BBC and Arsenal 2-1 Fulham match report on Arsenal.com. And don't forget to watch the post match interview with Arsene Wenger after the win over Fulham.

Jose Antonio Reyes left Arsenal for good

Jose Antonio Reyes, who was brought to Arsenal by Arsene Wenger for if i remember correctly, it was £21 million from Sevilla in January 2004. In his first season he scored quite a few goals for Arsenal but he remained unsettled at the London club and was supposedly very unhappy. Last year, Jose Antonio Reyes went on a year long loan deal with Real Madrid and Julio Baptista came to Arsenal on a year long loan too.

Jose Antonio Reyes went on loan with Real Madrid claiming he was very unhappy in London. Jose Antonio Reyes helped Real Madrid win the La Liga title scoring very important goals including the final match of the season. He scored six goals in 30 appearances for Real Madrid, including two goals against Mallorca on the final day which say Real Madrid win the La Liga title on the final day.

After a long speculation and talks with other clubs, Jose Antonio Reyes left Arsenal and joined Athletico Madrid. Jose Antonio Reyes is a talent and Arsenal would have wanted him to stay but there is no use keeping an unhappy player at a club. Jose Antonio Reyes made 110 appearances for Arsenal and scored 23 goals before going on loan with Real Madrid last season. Now that Jose Antonio Reyes left Arsenal, I think the club and the player is better off, but Jose Antonio Reyes will miss one with, he won't be playing any UEFA Champion's League matches playing for Athletico Madrid.

Freddie Ljungberg left Arsenal

After a long spell with Arsenal, Freddie Ljungberg has left Arsenal and signed for West Ham United. Freddie Ljungberg had been a crucial player for Arsenal in the past number of years but he had suffered lots of injuries and hadn't been able to perform as well in the past couple of season. But before all that, he was scoring a lot of goals for Arsenal.

Arsenal first signed him from Halmstads for £3 million in September 1998. He was a relatively unknown player and Arsene Wenger, as always sees quality players bought him for a bargain price. Wenger's buy showed immediate result as Freddie Ljungberg made a debut when he came on in the final eleven minutes against Manchester United in September 1998 and scored a goal. Arsenal won that game 3-0. Freddie Ljungberg's most productive year when he played for Arsenal was the season of 2001/02 when he scored 17 goals in 39 games which helped Arsenal to its second double under Arsène Wenger.

Freddie Ljungberg scored in double figures in the Premiership for the second time in 2004/05. Ljungberg scored 10 goals in 26 appearances in 2004/05 season which helped Arsenal to win the league, undefeated for the whole of 2004/05 season.

Freddie Ljungberg has two Premiership titles, three FA Cups and one Community Shield under his belt and Freddie was also the first player to score in consecutive FA Cup Finals for 40 years. He scored against Liverpool in 2001 and then against Chelsea in 2002 in the FA Cup finals. Freddie Ljungberg also got the honor of Premiership Player of the Season in 2002 as he scored 17 goals, which is a lot for a midfielder.

You can read more on Freddie Ljungberg's finest moments as an Arsenal player here. After a lackluster season last year, Ljungberg has chosen to leave Arsenal after a nine year stay at Arsenal. West Ham United signed Freddie Ljungberg for an undisclosed fee. I think his double figure scoring days are over but the bags of experience he has accumulated in the past nine years playing for Arsenal will be most valuable for West Ham United.
